Ever since Evangeline turned 2, I've tried my best to expose her to classroom settings since she's old enough...I'm trying my best to not be as germaphobic as I was during her first two years of life lol. Last summer, we did a ballet class (which was a major fail, she didn't ever want to follow the teacher's instructions...I just think she wasn't ready yet, esp. since the class was meant for 2-3 year olds, and she wasn't even 2 years old developmentally yet!) But my goodness! There is something SO cute about little girls in tutu's! I'm not even that girly but I loved it!
The second class she took was an arts class that is especially good for children with sensory issues. It included a lot of gluing, painting, music time, dancing, and play-dough. Evangeline took a couple of weeks to get used to it, but eventually she enjoyed it and finally touched the play-dough! She refused to touch it the first few weeks unless we put it back in the ziploc bag or in a cup, but the last class she was totally into it. Unfortunately, the class only lasted 2 months so now it's over, right when she finally got used to it!
I was planning on signing her up again for another class through our city, but I just got an update by our local Regional Center that since she graduated out of OT, she qualified for an Educationally-Structured Infant Development Program! Basically, it's like a preschool but is inclusive, and includes children with delays or disabilities. I AM SO STOKED! It's three times a week for 2.5 hours each. I am so so SO excited for Evangeline to start because this will be SO good for her! One of the bad things about the classes she took through the city was that it was only once a week, so by the time she finally got used to the teachers and setting, it would be over. By being there three times a week for more than an hour each, Evangeline will get used to it and enjoy it while learning! The place that we chose includes a Mommy-and-Me type program, and it is highly structured with activities ranging from 15-20 minutes each. There will be Circle Time with music and dance, Snack time with different choices for her, IPAD time, Outside Time to help with gross motor movement, Art time to help with Sensory issues, etc. It also includes typical children so I have no doubt she will learn a lot from her peers.
We qualify for this program until she turns 3 in July. I am so excited for Evangeline! Praying for good health during all these times...in the meantime, enjoy some pics from her class!
