blog 1...2...3...

Ever since I was a child, I loved keeping diaries. Writing was a therapy, an escape, a creative outlet which I enjoyed and found peace in doing. I was releasing my thoughts onto paper, and now because of technology, I release it onto the web. It's interesting to read my past blogs, specifically on this blogspot...my first blog "Love." started with me graduating from UCSB, and how much I looked forward to being married since I was a single lady (all the single ladies, all the single ladies...put yo' hands up!). I remember the burning desire inside of my heart to be a wife. Pouring hours and prayers into reading the Scriptures and fellow-shipping with other believers, what came out of my mouth was truly an overflow of my heart. I would ask every wife I knew what their experience was like, and more specifically, what their single life was like as they were basically being prepared for marriage. There's a popular (and very true saying) that a true reflection of your character is displayed in the friends you keep. Almost every time I saw them, I'd go, "So...can you teach me how to be a Proverbs 31 wife? Can I be a Titus 2 lady also???" OMG I am so surprised they are still friends with me LOL especially my Ate Rona (my wonderful discipler)..I'm truly a "what you see is what you get" kind of girl.

My freshman year of college was an amazing experience of having my eyes opened to the Lord's truth of salvation and becoming a believer! Finding out that the Lord loved me, and sent His Son to die on a cross so that my sins could be forgiven, and that there is nothing I could do to gain favor with Him because it is all by grace...how mind-blowing! Truly remarkable. Who does that?!?!  And then the year after I graduated from UCSB, I really looked forward to marriage, and SURPRISE! The Lord had plans for me to be married sooner than I thought. If someone told me right when I graduated, "In a few months you will be pursued by Kevin...and 6 months after that you'll be engaged..." I would have laughed really hard, then laughed more for the sake of it. What a pleasant surprise ;) God's plans are always better than mine!

My second blog "lovebirds." which I am currently posting in, is dedicated to being a wife. I LOVE BEING A WIFE TO KEVIN. Words cannot describe how good Kevin is to me, and he is honestly the catch in this relationship lol I am not saying that in a "let me put myself down" girly way, I am saying that from a sinner's perspective who really is just too aware of how bleh and gross and icky and sinful I am. Kevin is also a sinner, and is not perfect by any means, but man he is amazing. And I love him. And he loves me. More importantly, he loves Christ Jesus our Lord. And there is just no one else who really displays to me the love Christ has for the Church, which is what should be happening in marriage anyway (check out Ephesians 5 for more details on this!)

I also started another blog recently, called "And the Lord remembered her." And that is more of a personal journey before parenthood, with things that Kevin and I are struggling with, physically and emotionally and, essentially, spiritually. People make fun of me for this blog (Lovebirds.) always being so happy about marriage (and well, it's true! Marriage is AWESOME haha!) But that blog is a little bit more somber because of seemingly tough circumstances for pregnancy. I've found encouragement in the Lord and fellow sisters who have had similar experiences and maybe that blog can encourage somebody going through a similar trial. The Lord is good no matter what, and He is always purposeful and working together all things for my good (Romans 8:28) and His plans are better than mine. Kevin and I have been married for a little over a year and a half, and parenthood is the next season of our life that we will enter into eventually (whether biologically or adopted!). It's nice to chronicle our thoughts and prayers as a married couple looking forward to parenthood. Who know when parenthood will happen for us? In a year? In ten years? 20 years?  It's very comforting to have a Lord who is faithful and loving and sovereign...His timing is always perfect.

A couple of my friends have asked why I haven't blogged in a while and honestly, there are so many things I want to say so I guess the best way to do that is through separate blogs because it touches on certain aspects of my life. Also, I don't always have access to a laptop because Kevin and I share one and he usually has it all the time because of his schooling. So here it is! A blog entry...about my blog entries! Life is great and I am very thankful for everything...I have a great God, a loving husband, shelter and food, and a job that I love (did I mention that I'm a pre-K teacher now? I LOVE MY JOB!) I'm a very blessed person! Also...Kevin's 25th birthday is just around the corner...I'm sure I'll blog about that soon! Praise the Lord for all He's doing in our lives. He shows us so much grace and our marriage is just another gift from the Giver of all good things.

This Is Us: Why It Hits Home

A little over two years ago, I was crying to my cousin because I had just found out I was suffering a miscarriage. Not only was it a miscarriage of a baby whom I was losing, but it was also the loss of a twin that Elianna would not grow up with. And when a person miscarries a twin early enough, the baby doesn't come out the way a typical miscarriage happens...the baby just gets reabsorbed into the mom and into the twin. "You should really watch This Is Us. The first episode is about a miscarriage too, except the character played by Mandy Moore loses a triplet." my cousin told me through her tears, as she comforted me since the wounds were so fresh. There are a lot of things within the show that I do not relate with: I never lost a dad to an unexpected death. I do not have an adoptive sibling or was adopted myself looking for a birth parent. I do not have an addiction to eating. But I could relate to miscarriage, and I do plan to adopt one day, so that's as far as ...

What's Beautycounter?

For those of you who didn't know, I've actually become a consultant for Beautycounter, a skincare and cosmetics brand that stands out for its mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. I have truly fallen in love with the products and the ways that they lobby congress, trying to push for legislation to pass so there is more transparency in the beauty industry (each time I see pics of consultants at Capitol Hill, 19 year-old Leigh Ann the political science major comes back out!) And let's be real-I'm all about that transparent life. What you see is what you get when it comes to me... Before I go into my reasons for getting involved with Beautycounter, I wanted to make a disclaimer. I am NOT a beauty guru. I have never been super into make up or doing my hair, or even skincare other than when I am forced to control my finicky skin. I think all of my close girlfriends can attest to watching me get up, brush my teeth and wash my face, and get out the door i...

Our "New Normal"

Evangeline has been home with us for almost a month now (already?!) and we've finally created a routine...it's a "new normal" for all three of us! Currently life consists of drawing up medications, breastpumping, cleaning bottles/breaspumping accessories/syringes, feeding our baby and changing diapers. When Evangeline was born at 6 months gestation, our routine consisted of us going to the NICU for 88 days. It was exhausting and difficult, but it was the only way to see our baby (we can't stress how thankful we are that she's home!) And well, just as we got used to this "new normal," I'm going to have to get used to another "new normal" in about 2 weeks! Why? Because Kevin will be going back to work, since his paid-time off will end soon! Honestly, having a baby is already life-changing as is. But to have a baby with special needs is a lot of work! It's like an overtime job! I always ask Kevin, "What am I going to do when you...
