Sunday morning, Rain is falling

Sunday morning is my favorite.

I vaguely remember, about a decade ago, I made a Livejournal entry about how much I loved Sunday mornings. I described how every Sunday morning, I'd wake up to my mom singing and ruining all of the lyrics. And how my family would go together to Catholic Mass, and then we'd go to Cerritos and eat some DJ Bibingkahan or Pinoy-Pinay. Those are still some fond memories I hold.

And then I became Christian, and those memories remained as they were: memories from the past, never again to happen in the future.

But now, as a married woman, I love Sunday mornings still, if not more. I wake up to an empty bed, because Kevin wakes up earlier than me. And I go downstairs and he's up and talking with my brother-in-law Michael, making omelettes. Michael's omelettes are always so pretty and fluffy, with yummy vegetables and other fancy-shmancy stuff in it. Kevin's omelettes usually look like they went through a car crash, with hot dogs and spam scattered everywhere. Michael slowly eats his with a fork. Kevin devours his quickly and without mercy, with me having to clean up everything that falls out of his mouth and onto the floor. Okay, so I may be over-exaggerating. Or so I wish!!!!!

I clean up a bit, do some laundry, and Kevin leaves for worship practice. Then we go to church, and see our church family, hear some Word or teach some Sunday School. It's always nice to hear some preaching from our Pastor or other leaders. Kevin and I are like half of the teachers doing Sunday School for the kids, so half of the month we aren't able to hear the preaching at church because we are helping each other. During the week we listen to sermons on our own through the computer or other broadcasting, but it isn't the same. Afterwards, we are open to doing whatever we want. Just me and my husband. It's such a nice relaxing break from a week full of work and chores and ministry. Not that I don't enjoy those things, but it's tiring. I sometimes find it hard to even imagine having children because of how things are now. The weekends are great for catching up on things or hanging out with friends and taking a breather.

I'm already making a list of things to do for the rest of today and the rest of this week. I think that's just the way I'm hay-wired. Always making plans, needing to know what's ahead. But Kevin is the opposite-always going with the flow, moving slowly, bopping his head to some unheard song and making some drumming motions and rhythms with his hands against his legs.

Every Sunday, I always listened to Maroon 5's old album (I think it's called "Songs about Jane") and would listen to the song "Sunday Morning." I think one of their songs was also the background song for my Xanga! And now I'm listening to them again but this time with my husband next to me. He's watching a video on R.C. Sproul talking with some other dude about being a Young Earth vs. Old Earth supporter. We're gonna get ready for church and also for a baby shower happening later.

What a wonderful Sunday morning :)

  1. We are all busy aren't we hehe. And I too like to make schedules (knowing what to do, knowing what to cook for future days etc). It's fun though isn't it?

And I agree buying veggies and how they go bad early frustrates me. That's why I have to do groceries twice a week.

And I too am the only one saved in my family. It is lonely as well. But God is good and after many years (8 yrs) I am now reading the book of John with my mom. I continue to pray that He would reveal Himself to my mom and family and that He would choose them to know Him and to love Him just as He has chosen me. Will add your family onto my prayer list.

Keep up the blogging I enjoy reading it. =)
Say Hi to Kev for me.

    1. Stacey! What a surprise, how did you find my blog?? Haha! What an encouragement to hear from you. I know that you have a lot I can learn from because you've been a wife longer than me :) I'll tell Kevin you say hi! And thanks so much for praying for my family, it means a lot. When are we going to see you next??

  2. Hey Leigh Ann!

I think I found your blog linked to someone elses so I just bookmarked it =) lol

We're going to Resolved this year staying until maybe the 2nd session on Monday then headed back since Lester has work. Pretty stoked to go. So I guess that will most likely be the next time we see you two.

I'd be glad to pass on some wifely knowledge to you. We'll be married for 4yrs on 9/13/12 and we are still learning a lot. But its a fun. You can get my number from Bethany or Mariel if you want. I don't want to type my email addy here in case a spambot gets a hold of it ;)

Best advice I can give right now is:
Costco is good for bulk supplies (toiler paper, paper towels, boneless skinless chicken breast packs, cereal cheerios- lowers cholesterol). Sometimes there are even coupons for those items which make them even cheaper

Sometimes albertsons is cheaper than other grocery stores
Check your free standing inserts (aka ads that come in the mail for grocery stores). There are always sales and coupons there.

If you have a grower's direct and are buying lots of veggies you should buy your veggies there. It is a store that sells just veggies. We have one here in Costa Mesa

Currently, we are using an app on our iphone which tracks our spending. We are able to see if we are within budget. Sometimes it changes because we may have bought an item that was onsale that we did not account for etc. We review the total spending at the end of each month to go over any discrepancies

What Lester also does is if we are in a store he takes a picture of the item with its sales price (like lysol or baking soda for the fridge) so that we know if we go to another store we know which one is a better deal. There is also an app that you take a picture of the barcode and it will tell you how much it cost in different locations. Doesn't work all the time.

    =)

This Is Us: Why It Hits Home

A little over two years ago, I was crying to my cousin because I had just found out I was suffering a miscarriage. Not only was it a miscarriage of a baby whom I was losing, but it was also the loss of a twin that Elianna would not grow up with. And when a person miscarries a twin early enough, the baby doesn't come out the way a typical miscarriage happens...the baby just gets reabsorbed into the mom and into the twin. "You should really watch This Is Us. The first episode is about a miscarriage too, except the character played by Mandy Moore loses a triplet." my cousin told me through her tears, as she comforted me since the wounds were so fresh. There are a lot of things within the show that I do not relate with: I never lost a dad to an unexpected death. I do not have an adoptive sibling or was adopted myself looking for a birth parent. I do not have an addiction to eating. But I could relate to miscarriage, and I do plan to adopt one day, so that's as far as ...

What's Beautycounter?

For those of you who didn't know, I've actually become a consultant for Beautycounter, a skincare and cosmetics brand that stands out for its mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. I have truly fallen in love with the products and the ways that they lobby congress, trying to push for legislation to pass so there is more transparency in the beauty industry (each time I see pics of consultants at Capitol Hill, 19 year-old Leigh Ann the political science major comes back out!) And let's be real-I'm all about that transparent life. What you see is what you get when it comes to me... Before I go into my reasons for getting involved with Beautycounter, I wanted to make a disclaimer. I am NOT a beauty guru. I have never been super into make up or doing my hair, or even skincare other than when I am forced to control my finicky skin. I think all of my close girlfriends can attest to watching me get up, brush my teeth and wash my face, and get out the door i...

Our "New Normal"

Evangeline has been home with us for almost a month now (already?!) and we've finally created a routine...it's a "new normal" for all three of us! Currently life consists of drawing up medications, breastpumping, cleaning bottles/breaspumping accessories/syringes, feeding our baby and changing diapers. When Evangeline was born at 6 months gestation, our routine consisted of us going to the NICU for 88 days. It was exhausting and difficult, but it was the only way to see our baby (we can't stress how thankful we are that she's home!) And well, just as we got used to this "new normal," I'm going to have to get used to another "new normal" in about 2 weeks! Why? Because Kevin will be going back to work, since his paid-time off will end soon! Honestly, having a baby is already life-changing as is. But to have a baby with special needs is a lot of work! It's like an overtime job! I always ask Kevin, "What am I going to do when you...
